We are an innovative materials company that develops sustainable and non-harmful functional membranes, mostly aimed at the production of outdoor gear.

How it all started

Mario and Anna first met while pursuing their Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering at ETH Zurich. They became close friends in their final year when they ended up in the same lab group. This friendship continued even as they pursued their Master's degrees and then their PhDs. At the end of Anna's PhD, Mario proposed that they embark on the dimpora adventure together, knowing that they make a great team and share the same Swiss values, as well as a love for skiing.

We believe in a world where outdoor clothing protects people as much as the nature we all enjoy.

We, as scientists, believe in progress and are convinced that concrete action must be taken to preserve our environment. In 2017, Greenpeace released a report condemning the use of per- and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) in the clothing industry. PFCs can be found in the membranes incorporated into outwear and are extremely hazardous and persistent in the environment. PFCs accumulate in the liver of polar bears and in human blood, as well as in secluded mountains and lakes. Therefore, it is crucial for nature enthusiasts to keep their beloved outdoor spaces PFC-free.

In light of these findings, dimpora aims to use the latest knowledge to ensure that people who appreciate nature have the means to act accordingly.

The name "dimpora" is a combination of dimension and pore, both of which are essential to our vision of a seamless, breathable membrane.

We transform the outdoor wear industry reconciling performance and sustainability.

With our scientific expertise and strong brand partnerships, we empower people to enjoy nature without leaving a trace.

In the last ten years, there has been a significant increase in the number of people who are interested in experiencing nature. Outdoor activities are becoming more popular across all age groups. To have a comfortable experience in nature, it is essential to have waterproof and breathable equipment that can keep you dry from external water contact like rain and also prevent sweat accumulation. Currently, fluorine-containing membranes are used to provide these functions. However, it has been revealed that these membranes have several negative effects. They have been linked to severe negative health consequences and have a strong impact on the ozone layer.

Our goal is to help outdoor enthusiasts enjoy nature without damaging it or themselves. Unfortunately, outdoor brands are faced with two unsatisfying alternatives: they can use fluorinated membranes, which are efficient in providing both breathability and waterproofness but are harmful. Alternatively, they can turn to fluorine-free membranes, but these membranes often perform well in only one aspect and not both simultaneously.

We have come up with a solution that reconciles these different aspects. We are introducing fully performant and damage-free membranes to the market that have equal, if not better, properties than the currently available ones.
